Nashville Car Accident Attorneys
Seeking compensation after being injured in a car accident?
In Tennessee, there are tens of thousands of car accidents with injuries that occur each year in the Volunteer State. In fact, there are approximately 10,000 injury crashes in Davidson County alone.
At the same time, there are upwards of a thousand or more fatal traffic accidents in Tennessee in any given year, according to the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security.
Further, in a typical year there are approximately 215 fatal traffic accidents in the Nashville metropolitan area. It’s a region that includes Cheatham, Dickson, Houston, Humphreys, Montgomery, Robertson, Rutherford, Stewart, Sumner, Williamson and Wilson counties, not to mention Davidson County, home to Raybin & Weissman.
We’ve highlighted several tragic car accidents on our blog, including a collision in which a 7-year-old boy was killed in a distracted driving car crash and an incident in which a pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run accident in Donelson. We’ve also written about a car crash in which a driver drove the wrong way down a Nashville street and T-boned an SUV.
If you or a family member has been the victim of a car wreck or traffic collision like the examples above, make sure you talk with an experienced attorney or law firm that can carefully examine your case.

What to Do After a Car Accident
If you’re involved in a car accident, it will inevitably be a stressful experience. Even a minor car wreck may leave you feeling dizzy, in shock, or even angry. Take a deep breath and follow these ten steps:
1. Move out of harm’s way
If the accident is minor and it’s safe to do so, move your automobile onto the shoulder or out of the path of traffic.
2. Stop the car and get out
Turn off the ignition, shift into park (or set the hand brake) and turn on your hazard lights.
3. Check on others and call 911
Check on other drivers, passengers and pedestrians and call for help if anyone may be injured.
4. Call the police
Contact the police, especially if there are injuries, anyone is confrontational or if there is substantial damage to one or more vehicles. Ask for the police officer’s name and contact information, as well as the accident number.
5. Do not admit fault
Do not accept fault or place blame.
6. Gather information
Write down as much information as possible in the aftermath of the accident, including the names, addresses, phone numbers, license plate numbers and driver’s license information of any other drivers, as well as the names of witnesses and anyone with injuries.
7. Photograph the scene
If possible, take photos of the scene and damage to the vehicles. Photograph anything that provides evidence as to what happened.
8. Seek medical attention
Even a minor car wreck can cause injuries that are not immediately evident.
9. Call your insurance company
The necessary contact information can be found on your insurance card.
10. Consult an attorney to learn about your rights as a victim.
What Documentation Will You Need after a Car Accident?
After a car wreck you should document where and how the collision occurred by taking pictures and drawing a diagram showing the position of the autos involved in the accident. Do not talk to a claims adjuster, make a recorded statement or say anything that can be used against you.
- Photograph the scene
- Photograph damage to the vehicles involved in the accident
- Take pictures of anything else that provides evidence as to what happened
Measuring the Severity of Injury from a Car Collision
If you’ve been in car wreck, we recommend that you visit a doctor and get checked out. Some injuries—like broken bones and cuts & bruises—are readily apparent. But as we note on our soft tissue injuries page, “soft tissue injuries are not always easy to diagnose.” That’s one reason it’s vital to “seek medical attention, even if you do not feel painful symptoms immediately…. Soft tissue injuries can be incredibly painful, and often persist longer than a fracture or other injury.”
- Other types of common car accident injuries are:
- Brain and spinal cord injuries
- Broken bones
- Burn injuries
- Loss of limb(s) and disfigurement
- Injuries caused by the deployment of airbags
- Injuries caused by automobile defects
