Elderly Woman Killed in Own Living Room by Drunk Driver

Bobbie Ann Lafollette was described by her family as a kind, loving, Christian woman who was a mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to countless people she came across during her life.

It was early Monday morning when Ms. Lafollette, sleeping in her own home, was instantly killed by a drunk driver who crashed through the side of the Bellevue house off of the 1100 block of George Patton Road.

The man who allegedly ended Ms. Lafollette’s life, Michael E. Harris, had a history of DUI arrests. Unfortunately, Harris apparently never learned from his mistakes.

According to the police, because of his actions, a loving member of the Bellevue community is no longer with us.

Mr. Harris and his passenger, Cody Taylor, fled the scene immediately. Police were able to apprehend both men, arresting Harris.  He has been charged with six crimes including vehicular homicide and leaving the scene of an accident.

As a personal injury lawyer, I have seen far too many family members and loved ones robbed of their lives by drunk drivers. If these allegations prove true, Mr. Harris will be just one of the countless individuals on the roads today who have selfishly endangered themselves and others with their actions. This is why it is important to always consider your actions and create safeguards when alcohol is involved before your start drinking.

How Nashville Can Put A Stop to Drunk Driving

Although alcohol can bring people together for a fun night of social activity, it comes with several dangers. According to the National Institute of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, almost 10,000 people are killed in the United States every year from alcohol related driving accidents. This is why it is important to follow these steps whenever alcohol is present:
